I was invited to go to a pre-screen of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, so Reece & I headed over to the theater to check out what all the hype was about.
I was looking forward to this movie because I have been a “Pirates” fan since the first movie, but had not liked any of the following Pirates movies as much as the first one.
After watching Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides my opinion changed. I LOVED that movie as much as the original!
About Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
“Johnny Depp returns to his iconic role as Captain Jack Sparrow and is joined by a host of international players, some familiar, such as Geoffrey Rush, once again as the indestructible Captain Hector Barbossa, and Kevin R. McNally, as Captain Jack’s longtime comrade Joshamee Gibbs, and some new to the “Pirates” family: Academy Award®–winning Penélope Cruz as Angelica, the first female pirate of the franchise; Ian McShane, of “Deadwood” fame, as the fearsome Blackbeard; Sam Claflin as stalwart missionary Philip Swift; and French actress Astrid Bergès-Frisbey as the mysterious mermaid Syrena.
Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) finds himself on an unexpected journey to the fabled Fountain of Youth when a woman from his past (Penélope Cruz) forces him aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane).”
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides was filled with funny one liners from Jack Sparrow, adventure, suspense, with a little “love tension” thrown in. The movie made you laugh out loud, jump in your seats, and cheer for the infamous Jack Sparrow!
I can say that I was honestly never “scared” in any of the other Pirate movies, but in this movie, there was one particular scene that got my heart beating fast, and I will admit, it made me a little scared. Let’s just say I am no longer a fan of Mermaids anymore.
I don’t remember who told me, but one of my friends said she did not think it would be the same without Keira Knightly and Orlando Bloom, but she was wrong! This Pirates movie completely switches plots from the Trilogy and definitely holds its own. Like I said, I liked this one as much as the first!
Of course, I continue to love Jack Sparrow. Seriously. And I really liked Blackbeard. He is one scary pirate. He played his role perfectly which is what made me totally afraid of that man! Captain Barbossa surprised me with his humorous side in this movie which worked well playing against Captain Jack.
As for Angelica (Penélope Cruz) it was hard for me to like her because she seemed a little wishy/washy to me. She stood strong against Capt Jack, but when it came to Blackbeard and humanity, she was a little less strong. Maybe that is what her intended character was supposed to be like, but, it just left me feeling a little indifferent towards her.
This is a great movie to kick off the Summer Movie Season with!
