Saturday I was lucky enough to volunteer at the James McLean Golf Tournament benefiting HomeTown Heroes. An annual event, the James McLean Golf Tournament helps promote awareness of HomeTown Heroes, their cause, helping kids with cancer, raising funds for Hometown Heroes, and fun of course!
Bright eyed and bushy tailed (ha! who am I kidding!) I arrived early at 6:30 am to help get things organized, distribute raffle tickets, sell Mulligans, and greet the players.
Each player player received a raffle ticket, but they could buy as many Mulligans as they wanted. Those things were flying off the shelf I tell you. Well, shoot, if I could re-do my golf shots I would be buying them too!
As the players left to tee off, I took a seat and waited for my partner in crime to show up, Stacy. Oh yes…We were in for a wild ride. We got ourselves hooked up with a golf cart, a cooler filled with drinks, and breakfast biscuits and off we went to take care of the players.
Within ten minutes we were out of drinks and had to ride back to the clubhouse and get some more. We didn’t always take the correct path though…ahem…did I say that out loud? Stacy was the “hostess with the mostess”….while I kicked back and watched her work her magic because I was a little under the weather (pneumonia *cough * cough* unbeknownst to me at the time).
Every time we got to another hole it was “More Please!” and we were happy to oblige. See, playing in this tournament is really special. Hometown Heroes wants you there. We want the players happy. They are supporting an awesome cause, HomeTown Heroes, and we want them to come back next year and bring all their friends! They are fed in the morning, get drive through service for drinks while playing, and that is just the beginning.
At the end of the tournament, the players were treated to a buffet lunch provided by Texas Roadhouse and then it was time for awards and raffle prizes!
The raffle prizes were awesome! Visa Gift Cards, Massages, Jewelry Gift Certificates, National White Water passes and so many more! It was great! A big thank you goes out to all those who donated to such a great cause!
Award time! Awards were handed out to the two top teams, two closest to the pins and the two longest drives.
There is HomeTown Heroes Founder Mr. Donnie Dixon…his team won first place!
And the mischief?? Well that would be the mad golf cart skills of Stacy…Neither one of us fell out…so I would say that would be a success!
You can bet I will be there again next year. Will you???
If you are interested in learning more about HomeTown Heroes, be sure to check out their Facebook page as that is where they announce most of their events. I can’t wait for the next event!
