Mornings With a “Tween” Aren’t Always Fun

Every once in a while, my Dad says, “I can’t wait until your kids turn into teenagers”. Well Dad, the time is coming I am afraid. I guess I am in for some pay back for all the trouble I caused my Mom and Dad when I was a teenager.

Last night I told Reece, “It’s going to be cold tomorrow. Wear your jeans and your jacket is in the dryer”.

I don’t know why I thought it was going to be cold, I didn’t watch the weather, I just heard it somewhere.

This morning Reece was dressed and let Maggie the dog outside. When he opened the back door you would have thought it was 100 degrees outside.

“Oh my gosh Mom! You said it was going to be cold!” SLAM goes the back door.

A little surprised I say, “I know, I guess it is supposed to be 70 today. Sorry!” I say with a smile.

“I don’t have time to change, oh my gosh Mom, I am going to be sweating all day long. Thanks a lot.”

With that Reece walks out the door to the bus stop. WHAT? No goodbye? A little snotty attitude because his jeans are too “warm”?

So Dad, sit back and watch the fireworks. The Tween Years have arrived!

P.S. 99% of the time Reece is a great kid. As a matter of fact, when he came home from school today and I told him what he did was disrespectful and it hurt my feelings he came up to me and gave me a big hug.

This is the sweet boy I see everyday!
