There is always something to do in Blowing Rock, NC. It doesn’t matter what the season, something is always going on in Blowing Rock. Last weekend they celebrated Winterfest and we were there to experience it!
Of course we spent the first night at the Cliff Dwellers Inn, letting the boys prepare for their Polar Plunge the next day! Now that is what we call entertainment!
Immediately following the Polar Plunge we headed to the Chili Cook-Off. MMMMM….MMMMM…Good! I do not know how many chili’s were actually entered into the cook off, but man it was good! Someone even had a Chocolate Chili! On top of the wonderful tasting event, they also had a live band playing. Now that is my kind of a cook off!
It looks like someone was enjoying their chili!
After getting nice and toasty from the chili, we headed over to Memorial Park to watch the Ice Sculpting Demonstration! These guys were sculpting huge ice blocks into beautiful pieces of art. At one point one of the sculptors put on a helmet because he said last year he was knocked out by a piece of ice. That is what I call dedication.
There was so much to do at Winterfest in Blowing Rock, it was hard to decide what to do next. Go on a hayride? Dancing, face painting, or snowflake creation for the kids? Check out the raffle and silent auction? Check out the children’s author and Blowing Rock resident Jonathan Graves will did a special reading and book signing of Isabella Propeller and the Magic Beanie? Wine Tasting? Minute to Win It” game show? Decisions, decisions. We finally decided to have dinner.
After dinner though, we headed back to Memorial Park where there was a bonfire. All the supplies were provided to make yummy s’mores! I could not have thought of a better way to end the day.
On our way home the next day, of course we had to stop at The Blowing Rock attraction. It is not a visit to Blowing Rock unless you visit it’s namesake!
All in all we had a wonderful time as always in Blowing Rock and plan to head up there again soon. You don’t have to wait for an “event” to visit Blowing Rock though, the city itself boast many outdoor activities, great restaurants, nice resorts, and so many things to do.
But if you want to wait for an event, why not head up there in April for the Blue Ridge Wine and Food Festival?
Our thanks go out to The Cliff Dwellers Inn and The Blowing Rock Visitors Center for making our trip to Blowing Rock for the Winterfest so much fun! We will be back!
That looks like a lot of fun! I will have to make a trip out there some time soon.
Great read.
