I swear, I don’t think we will ever eat at all the restaurants they have in Blowing Rock, NC.
While were there, we had our breakfast at the Cliff Dwellers Inn, lunch at the Chili Cook-Off so really, we only needed to find two places to eat!
Friday night we arrived kind of late so we tried The Mellow Mushroom in Blowing Rock. We have eaten at the Mellow Mushroom before so we knew we would like it. And of course we were not disappointed this time either.
We ordered a large pizza and to start us off we ordered “doughnads”. Essentially “doughnads” are balled up pizza dough with butter and parmesan cheese. YUM! I don’t think we even took a breath while wolfing these down!
As you can see, I didn’t even get a chance to snap a picture before everyone grabbed a piece of pizza.
A relaxed atmosphere, The Mellow Mushroom Blowing Rock is a great place to eat with or with kids and the price is great too.

The other place we ate was Woodlands Barbecue. While I am not a huge barbecue eater, when I like barbecue…I LOVE IT.
There were several great things about Woodlands:
Great prices
Huge selection of food – from barbecue to tacos and everything in between
Fast Service, Friendly Staff
Some things you might want to consider when dining at Woodlands:
The wait – There always seems to be a wait at Woodlands. If you don’t want to wait, this isn’t the place for you. However, we only waited about 15 minutes and the food was absolutely worth the wait.
Downstairs – When we put our name in they asked us if we wanted upstairs or downstairs or first available. Usually when asked that, there is a reason they give you a choice, but at the time I wasn’t thinking so I said first available.
I found out why they asked. If you are at all claustrophobic you will not like being downstairs. It is packed with people and you are really just sitting at long tables with other people. In a way it reminded me of being in a basement. While I am claustrophobic, I was able to adjust easily and we enjoyed the meal (and loved it) no problem. However, if you are claustrophobic I would avoid downstairs. Upstairs in much more roomy and airy.
