Everybody Needs a Little Help Sometimes – The Shah’s Story

Everybody Needs a Little Help Sometimes – The Shah’s Story

You may or may not remember, I am a volunteer and board member for HomeTown Heroes, a local non-profit who helps kids with cancer, so when I heard the Shah’s story, it really hit home.

About the Shah’s:

Andrew Shah is a a 10 year old, wonderfully bright, little boy that has been battling Leukemia for several years now.

He has been receiving a cancer treatment, antibody therapy, to prevent infection because his immune system is severely compromised by the chemotherapy. The treatment was covered by his parents previous insurance company, but was recently denied by the current insurance carrier, and it’s treatment he’s already received. They’ve received a $21000 medical bill, and do not have the funds to pay it, nor the means to come up with the funds.

Read that again.

Your child is suffering with cancer, you are trying to get him the help he needs and this is what you are faced with. In a time where money should be the least of your worries, you are given a bill that is so overwhelming that you don’t know what to do.

What would you sacrifice for your child? Everything right? What if everything was already gone? Who would you turn to? I pray to God you would have someone to turn to and if not, someone you know could try to get you in contact with someone you could help.

The Shah’s chose to use the Give Forward Campaign to help raise funds for their medical bills.  Anyone can contribute to this fund. As of this writing, there have been 45 donations totaling a little over $3200. They still have a long way to go.

Wouldn’t it be nice to see that total go up to $21,000??? We do need each other, we do need strangers. We may like to be independent, but in all honesty could YOU afford a $21,000 bill? If it was YOUR child what would you do? It is the season for giving….and what a wonderful gift it would be to help this family out. Any amount. Give them the peace of mind to focus on their child while he battles cancer….
