Yes, you heard me correctly. I will be going to the Polar Plunge in Blowing Rock, NC! But, alas, I don’t think you could actually get me to jump in the water – I will leave that to Mel (and Reece if there is no age restriction).
What is this Polar Plunge you ask?
Winterfest’s Frozen Treat: Polar Plunge Coming Saturday, Jan. 28
Cold water insanity will reign during Winterfest in Blowing Rock when ill-advised,
costumed participants take the plunge into icy Chetola Lake.
Who: 40-50 insane plungers
What: Compete for the coveted Golden Plunger Award
When: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 28
Where: Chetola Lake, Chetola Resort, Blowing Rock
How: Costumed crazies leap into the ice-crusted waters of Chetola Lake while spectators
watch smugly and attending emergency workers prepare to put their wet-suited skills to
good use.
Why: You’ll have to ask the plungers…but please do so befor e they jump; you’ll get
more coherent answers.
Freezin’ for a Reason: Proceeds will benefit Wine to Water, a charity founded by Doc
Hendley of Boone, one of CNN’s Top Ten Heroes of 2009. Wine to Water has provided
clean drinking water from wells to a dozen Third World countries, and the Polar Plunge
proceeds will be used to help build a well in Ethiopia.
