I also want you to know, I really tried to protect my advertisers. I would receive inquiries almost weekly from businesses who wanted me to write about them, but they were not supporting our magazine. They usually were advertising elsewhere, but wanted us to write a story about them or from them for free advertising. 99.9% of the time I turned them down as I was really trying to protect my advertisers. If there was space left in the magazine, I would give it to you, the advertisers who supported City Unwrapped.
Unfortunately, what we lacked was a salesperson. Since I started this magazine I searched high and low for a salesperson who would like to come on board as a business partner so that we could not only succeed in this area, but expand as well. Unfortunately as much as I tried to find someone, I couldn’t.
The cost to print and distribute a magazine is astronomical, but quite frankly, I never thought I would have a problem covering those costs because City Unwrapped went above and beyond for our clients including social media, web promotion and more for all of our advertisers, something no other magazine does.
I closed City Unwrapped Magazine in December 2014 and still miss it. Ideally I would like to bring it back one day, but not without a solid salesperson, marketing partner.
