A few years ago Reece and I went to a Mother/Son Hockey event for his school. We had a blast just the two of us. This year, I was bound and determined to do something again with just the two of us. And wouldn’t you know it? HomeTown Heroes just happened to be having a Hockey Event we could go to!
We went to the Charlotte Checkers 7th Annual Salute to Heroes Event. Monies raised from some of the ticket sales went to HomeTown Heroes…so they could continue to do what they do best….spreading their smiles to children and their families.
Reece and I had a blast. We sat with some of the members of HomeTown Heroes and watched the Charlotte Checkers claim victory against the Chicago Wolves.
Reece is a boys boy all around. He is boy from the tip of his head to the bottom of his feet. He likes to get dirty, be loud, play rough, and make some pretty gnarly sounds. However, he is also a boy with a huge heart. He likes little kids, he likes puppies, and sometimes, he likes hanging with his Mom….Me…just the two of us.
Reece and I are a lot a like which is why sometimes we butt heads. But that’s ok, because at the end of the day, I know we respect each other and I know we love each other. When we smile together it is from the heart. When we laugh together it is because we are truly happy. When we are taken away from the distractions of sisters, spouses, homework, cleaning, we are two peas in a pod. Happy to be together and genuinely enjoy each others company.
I could not be more proud of the young man my son Reece is turning into. I am one lucky Mom to have such a great son.
I am also one lucky person to have found a group like HomeTown Heroes….whose smiles and acts of kindness bring joy to families in need.
HomeTown Heroes always has something special going on for the kids in their lives….To stay up to day on all their events, check them out on Facebook.
