I would have loved to have received a Doggie Gift Basket when we adopted Chloe…or Rosie…or Maggie. Bringing home a new dog is like bringing home a new family member! All of my dogs were adopted, or adopted us in Maggie’s case, and I really believe they somehow “know” they were adopted and appreciate us in their own special way.
We were on a mission to create a Doggie Gift Basket for someone special (to be revealed later), so we headed over to our local Wal-Mart to see what we could come up with. Surely first time dog owners must be overwhelmed by the amount of “dog” products that are available..shampoo, grooming supplies, treats, food, bowls, leashes, collars, toys, clothes (yes clothes!) and so much more.
Aisle after aisle is jam packed with items to choose from, but since I know who we are giving the Doggie Gift Basket to, and as a seasoned dog owner, I know what I would have appreciated!
First off, dog bowls. You don’t have to get the biggest or fanciest…But I do have one suggestion. Read the serving instructions on the food! You may be serving your dog too much food which will lead to your dog being overweight and then health problems.
Do you spoil your dog? Is getting a “doggie bed” considered spoiling a dog? I don’t know, but I definitely think dogs enjoy laying on soft things…why not get them a bed of their own so they don’t take over yours?
Food – YIKES! So many choices! The dog we are creating the basket for is a puppy and I have heard it enjoys “soft” food.
Treats – Having a new puppy means training will be involved! We used treats like Milk-Bone® to help us train our dogs. The selection of dog treats was HUGE. Milk-Bone® is a trusted name in our household, but I was not aware they also carried a “Healthy Favorites” biscuit that has no corn, soy, or artificial preservatives!
We purchased Milk-Bone®, Pup-Peroni, and Milo’s Kitchen treats to fill our gift basket!
We also purchased some chew toys, grooming supplies, a bed and more! To see all of our shopping experience, check out my Google+ Album!
Check back in a few days to see who received our Doggie Gift Basket!

I wish my dogs were new…We could use a new doggie bed! Whoever gets the gift basket is lucky!!!
Ha! Maggie is trying to “steal” the bed though..hha!
We just got a new puppy not too long ago and it was CRAZY trying to figure everything out. What a neat thing you’re doing! It would’ve been so helpful to have a guide for normal people!
Wooohoooo can’t wait to see your finished post! I need to get my finished post up!
