Over the weekend we attended the Celebrity Bake Off and Silent Auction. I was invited to be a “celebrity chef” (representing my local Charlotte magazine City Unwrapped) and of course I went to work putting together what I thought would be the BEST cake for the event. Since the event was to benefit the CMPD Animal Care & Control Free Spay and Neuter Program, it was hard for me to decide what to bake..something for the dogs??? Or something for the humans?? So I did both!
First, I made a Carob Banana Cake with Peanut Butter & Honey Frosting for dogs!
Then I made a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Cake! OH MY! This was YUMMILICOUS!
But wait! There’s more! I also included a gift basket full of home goods, dogs stuff, kitchen items and also had items donated to the gift basket from Sandy Alvis Realty & Consulting, All Things Cloth, and Fancy Full Gifts!!!
Seriously…if you missed this event, you missed a great time. Dogs were invited, there were plenty of media on hand Kristen Miranda from WBTV was the host for the evening, and a lot of other media celebrities were on hand too!
There was plenty of food on hand, music, comedians and even dog agility events.
All of the ‘celebrities’ cakes were on display and the bidding started. I think I went a little overboard…but who cares? It was for a GREAT cause and I L.O.V.E baking!
At the end of the evening the winners were announced:
The 2013 “Creative Concoction Award” goes to Ciera Choate from Carolina Weekly Newspapers”
The 2013 “Baddest Bread” goes to WCCB’s Kirk Hawkins
The 2013 “Cleverest Cookie Award” goes to WCNC’s Michelle Boudin
The 2013 “Coolest Cake Award” goes to Animal Care & Control’s Mark Balestra
And finally the big winner…
The Top Celebrity of Baker of 2013….
Katie Campbell’s with her Reese’s peanut butter cup cake for people, carob banana oat cake for dog and a gift basket! The top bid of the night!
NOOOOOOO WAAAYYYYY!!! How cool is that! After losing both Maggie and Chloe this year, I think it was sort of surreal I happened to win this.
But more important than me winning, the Director of Animal Care and Control, Mark Balestra pointed out, that the money raised during this event alone will pay for three Saturday clinics which will spay and neuter 186 animals and stop all those offspring probably over 1,000 pups and kittens!
I am honored to have been a part of this event.

That is do cool! Very happy for you Katie! Wish I could have tried that peanut butter cake! Yum!
Thanks Blake! It is YUMMMMMMMY!
Great job kates! 🙂
