Don’t Be Scared to Eat My Face – Spookamole Avocado Recipe

Don’t Be Scared to Eat My Face – Spookamole Avocado Recipe

Sweet! Halloween is right around the corner and the best thing about Halloween is it gives me an excuse to throw a party – Woo Hoo. And with a party comes food.

Party + Food + Avocados from Mexico

Equals

Creepy, crawly dip I like to call “Don’t Be Afraid to Eat My Face”

But why Avocados from Mexico? Ah, good question. First of all, they are the Hass variety and are the only avocados available 12 months of the year! Which means, if I wanted to, I could pick up an Avocado from Mexico Christmas Eve and make a “Don’t Eat My Wreath” dip. Or pick one up before April Fool’s Day, cut it and place it on an Avocado Chicken Sandwich with a string attached. When Reece went to take a bite of it, I could pull the avocado out of the sandwich, yell “April Fools – This avocado is all mine!

Avocados are also full of antioxidants and contain fiber, potassium, Vitamin E, folic acid, and other B vitamins.  Tastes good and are good for you – can’t be beat.

Avocados from Mexico go from tree to table in less than a week. Plus, I am sure you will be happy to know Hass avocados from Mexico are grown, hand harvested, inspected, packed, and shipped within days to the most exacting standards in the world.

Now, how do you know when an avocado is ripe and ready to use? Think of it this way, the darker and more “wrinkly” it is, the riper it is getting (but don’t let it get too dark or wrinkly!). Check it out:

This was taken from the Avocados from Mexico website.

So now on to the “Don’t Be Scared to Eat My Face” Spookamole Recipe – It’s so easy! And so good – I literally could eat it all day, all by myself.

This is a very flexible recipe, so a little more or less of each ingredient can be used!
Ingredients:
  • Small container sour cream (More can be added)
  • 2 avocados  mashed (ripe) I used fresh, ripe Avocados from Mexico
  • Juice from1/4 lemon (more can be added to taste)
  • 1-2 teaspoons onion flakes (to taste)
  • 1/4 chopped white onion
  • Add season salt to taste (don’t want it to be too salty)

Directions:

  • Mix all ingredients together and the dip is done!

Now, to make the Spooky Face!

For the hair, use the ends of green onions and slice them thin – This gives you the wild, curly look

For the eyebrows, use 1/4 of the avocado rind for each eyebrow

For the eyes, use 1/4 avocado and add a black olive on each eye

For the cheeks (or ears), use 1/4 avocado for each

For the mouth, well, we used red licorice vines, but anything red will do. Add chopped white onion in the mouth for the teeth.

Decorate any other way you want.

How did those spiders get there? I didn’t put them there!?

I am going to enter my recipe “Don’t Be Scared to Eat My Face” in the Spookamole Recipe Contest hosted by Avocados from Mexico! Oh yea!  Here are the details:
